When you are on the beach, during the day the sun heats the land and makes the air above it hot this air rises and pulls in air from the sea to replace it, this is a sea breeze. At night the land cools down and when it is colder than the se...

Seaward-blowing land breezes and landward-blowing sea breezes are both caused by differential rates of (daytime) heat gain and nighttime heat loss, as between solids (the land) and liquids (the sea), respectively. During daytime solar heati...

The land breezes, when compared to the sea breezes, are less extensive and not as strong (usually less than 10 knots and less than 10 miles offshore). This is because there is less temperature contrast at night between land and water surfaces as compared to the temperature contrast during daytime heating.

Aristotle in Problemata and Theophratus in On the Winds attempted to describe the genesis and nature of the land and sea breezes. Whenever large land and water bodies are adjacent to one another, sea breezes may develop and may cause thunderstorms. Florida's abundant summertime rainfall is a result of sea breezes. One sea breeze front advances from the east and one from the Gulf of Mexico side.

With a high pressure above the water, and a lower pressure above the land, conditions are perfect for a small breeze to develop. Wind blows from the sea, towards the land along the pressure gradient, in an attempt ... Thus, in the day we often see sea breezes, while in the evening we see land breezes in coastal regions.

Sea breezes are most common in the spring and summer, when the land tends to be warmer than the water. Water takes longer to respond to changes in solar radiation, so peak summertime temperatures are reached first over land and later over water.
