Id4 was further shown to regulate the growth and differentiation of mammary gland epithelial cells in culture. The findings implicate Id4 in rat mammary gland carcinogenesis and suggest that Id4 overexpression may impact carcinogenesis by inhibiting mammary epithelial cell differentiation and augmenting cell growth.
