Friends, who live in the city and share a balcony with a neighboring apartment, put chestnuts under the sliding door to their balcony. They have had no spiders while their neighbors continued to be infested. I've read a couple of newspaper articles about the use of chestnuts to repel spiders, too.

Eucalyptus, hedge apples and maybe even chestnuts might repel different types of spiders. You might consider a potpourri with one of these ingredients to scent the room. You are better off with a dried version of these items instead of a fresh version since fresh fruits and nuts will attract other types of bugs quickly.

I HAVE A HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE FEAR OF SPIDERS AND EVEN THEIR WEBS. TORNADOS TOO BUT I'LL STICK ... Not alot, just a few here & there. They are supposed to repel bugs.
