The Civil Liberties Act of 1988 was signed into law by President Reagan on August 10, 1988. The purposes of the Act are to acknowledge and apologize for the fundamental injustice of the evacuation, relocation, and internment of Japanese Americans and permanent resident aliens of Japanese ancestry;
