The Philadelphia based company P.S. Justice had a catchy name and produced some fine Civil War swords. In 1861 alone, the company produced nearly 14,000 cavalry sabers and over 1,000 artillery sabers.

1840 ARTILLERY SABERS ... Of the thirteen U.S. Model 1840 Artillery sabers displayed here, nine have wire wrap with a right hand twist, the other four have wire wrap with a left hand twist. Most of those with the right hand twist were manufactured by Ames.

These sabers were first manufactured between 1802 and 1822 with massive 40 INCH blades, but at the time of the Civil War the State of Virginia had many shortened to a more conventional length and clip tipped. This is an example of that exact type saber and is marked "2nd VA.
