on 1/23/2006 Turn on iron to medium setting and now use Oxi Clean versatile stain remover. Wet a dishwashing sponge and dip in the Oxi Clean. Now scrub the bottom of the iron lightly and the stains with begin to disappear.

I guess I am asking, what do you use to clean the bottom of the iron, where fabric burned on to it? ... But I had the same problem and use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser - worked like a charm. Before I tried it I bought a new iron but still have the box and receipt so it's going back ... RE: How do you clean the sole plate of your iron?

Cleaning bottom of steam iron! alt.home.cleaning ... Hello folks, I need some advice on how to clean my steam iron which has developed two patches on the bottom plate! If (as is most likely) it is starch residue, then elbow grease and a good cleaner such as Simple Green, Top Job etc. will remove it. After you have cleaned the sole of the iron, you should iron several pieces of waxed paper to coat the bottom and help it slide over clothing rather than dragging.

I wish I had some wax paper or paraffin handy, because I think the key to keeping an iron clean is to make sure the bottom remains slick. (03/28/2009) ...
