To get to my back door and patio you walk under a ... I haven't noticed that the large-flowering clematis types (like Jackman) attract bees excessively. I have a "Will Goodwin" and a "Gypsy Queen" growing alongside my deck, and there have been no problems at all.

Spring blooming clematis bloom on last year's wood from buds produced during the last growing season. These should be pruned immediately after blooming, but only if necessary and no later than the end of July in order to give the plant enough time to produce new buds for next year.
