The brown house moth, Hofmannophila pseudospretella, is about as common as the whiteshouldered moth. The bronze-brown adult has dark spots on the forewings and is slightly larger than the whiteshouldered moth. Larvae, white with tan heads, are about 1/4 -inch long at maturity.

In some instances this moth has been found damaging leather bindings. The brown house moth is more destructive than the common clothes moth. about a year ago we moved into our 1st house. i have had moths from day one with kalvin (macaw) but now that we live in a big house the moths are everywhere!!! any suggetions on how to get rid of them??? someone told me to try putting newspaper underneath his food, but that didn't work.

The commonest of the so-called clothes moths, with characteristic golden-bronze wings, flecked with black, folded flat along its back. The adult is about 8mm long and prefers to run rather than fly.
