TDC at the end of the compression stroke is the same as TDC at the beginning of the expansion stroke. Thus there is no difference. I assume you want to know if you are at TDC on the compression stroke or at TDC on the EXHAUST stoke.

how can you tell if the piston is on compression stroke or exhaust stroke....if that makes sense?? ... If the heads are on the motor the easy way is to place your finger over the spark plug hole. and turn the motor with a socket. when the pressure blows your finger off. you have compression stroke.
