The primary characteristic of Compulsive Skin Picking (CSP) is the repetitive picking at one's own skin to the extent of causing damage. Usually, but not always, the face is the primary location for skin picking.

Compulsive Scab Picking Human Science ... I have forgotton the medical term for compulsive scab picking, but i am ADDICTED to picking my scabs from scalp. . I relax my hair and sometimes it leaves burns on my scalp resulting loads scabs. My hand is always in my hair searching for scabs or sores to dig at.

By transcribing notes, I found out that nail biting, scab picking, ... The picking is a compulsive behavior called excoriation. It is a clinical symptom, usually of profound depression. That would cover it, except for the toenails, which is clearly self-mutilation. You need to get yourself to a psychiatrist.

Scab pickers have a disorder known as Dermatillomania. This is an obsessive compulsive disorder characterized by the compulsion to pick at skin. Many people with this disorder will also pick at healthy skin, and sometimes they pick their ... Many of these people try to stop picking at themselves but are unable to do so.

It may be an obsessive-compulsive thing as well as maybe a self-injury thing. Are you on an SSRI? They helped me with it, and I haven't done it in years. If you were brought to this site, you or a loved one probably has a problem with dermatillomania, or compulsive skin picking (CSP). CSP can be hard to understand and even harder to deal with!
