When you turn on or "boot up" your computer, a number of things occur in order to make it ready to receive commands and run programs. Even though you are probably using Windows95 for most of this course, we are going to cover the boot process for both Windows95 and a DOS-based system.

A few days ago, I awoke to see that my computer had frozen up. I thought nothing about it and decided to go ahead and restart, but quickly noticed that the computer would not boot up at all. It managed to access the Windows XP loading with a single bar, but there was no further activity.
