Go to Start > Run and type services.msc. Locate the nVidia Driver Helper item and right click it. Select Properties. Set the startup value of the service to “Manual” or “Disabled”. Your computer should shut down normally now.

But, there is a simple way to force your computer to shut down that often works like magic. It's a command built into Windows XP called, appropriately, "shutdown.exe." Just click Start-->Run and type "shutdown -f -s -t 0" (without the quotes - the last character is a zero) and hit Enter.

Hi, I cant recall when this problem started to occur..but whenever I try to shut down or restart my computer...you know how when you go to start, shut down/restart, the screen... ... Does the computer shut down properly from safe mode?
