A corm is a compressed stem. It is round, solid, and somewhat flat. It contains stored food with a bud on the top. Like true bulbs, it has a basal plate. Crocus and gladiolus are examples of corms. Glads have fibrous and CONTRACTILE root systems, while all other bulb plants have only fibrous systems.
