The Cowfish, Longhorn Cowfish, or Long-horned Cowfish are easily recognized by the horns on the forehead and the bottom rear of the body. These horns make them hard for predators to swallow. In any case their flesh is poisonous and would not make for a very good meal!

These horns are a defense mechanism make them difficult for predators to swallow. Their skin is also poisonous! The longhorn cowfish must be dealt with carefully when in an aquarium enviroment. If overly harrassed or stressed, it can release the toxic substance, ostracitoxin which will poison the entire fish tank.

The cowfish has a box-like body. It's horny spines protect it from predators and it's poisonous to most of them as well. The cowfish blows jets of water at the sand as it hunts for shrimps.

Longhorn Cowfish of the Wild West Pacific; ... They can be observed in nature up to a depth of 100 m.
