The biggest challenge with running a cupola furnace has turned out to be the scarcity of fuel to fire it. Coal coke is the best fuel for this purpose, but a determined search proved that I would have to drive 2000 miles to Utah to obtain it in quantity, or pay dearly for it to be shipped via UPS from the east.
