A close friend gave me the red variety of Cypress Vine and yes, she's still a good friend! I may reconsider in a few years once it gets ... While the flowers are pretty, here in central Florida the vine is too invasive and fast growing to keep in the garden. It tends to cover and choke out all the plants near it.

Our farm grown Cypress vine plants are a favorite flower of the hummingbird. They fly from flower to flower to collect the necture from this red flowered vine. Very pretty when in bloom.

There's a thread about these vines on the hummingbird forum. I was trying to figure out if plants are available ... I don't usually have a lot of luck with seeds! ... In mu opinion the Cardinal Climber is going to be vey similar to the Cypress vine. You could just go with one if you want to save some effort. Good luck.
