These can be ducted into the return duct system and help with the whole house or as in my case I have used it as a stand alone unit in my basement. This has solved my problem with the damp and musty smell in the basement.

So after smelling a musty smell in the basement, and touching the damp foundation walls (which is normal in summer because of all the moisture in the ground that seeps through cement), I bought one. If it doesn't do the trick, I'll return it in 30 days.
