Avoid the competition with the real bug and get the fish while they are actively looking for those damselfly nymphs. If fishing is slow in the early spring or late fall, that may also be a good time to try a damsel.

What's That Bug? does not endorse extermination ... They were both eating the same damselfly larva at the same time. I thought that this was a rare moment and snapped several shots. I later realized that the darker one had little egg pouches, or mites of some kind on one of its legs, and that there is another damselfly larva...

The winner is the vivid dancer damselfly, suggested by Lexie Arancibia of Beatty Elementary School in Las Vegas. Her bug was chosen from among seven put forth by her classmates. The students then submitted their contest entry to a judging panel of scientists and educators.
