Zeus gave Cadmus as bride Harmonia, the daughter of Ares and Aphrodite, and all the gods attended the wedding. Cadmus gave his bride as a present a necklace made by Hephaestus which subsequently was to play a fatal part in the Theban story (see AMPHIARAUS and ALCMAEON).
