To solve this problem, PAR was invented. PAR files are able to magically fix, and even re-create missing files (whether or not they are compressed with RAR.) So, you will usually want to check your RAR files with their associated PAR files before decompressing.

News Rover is not able to produce RAR and PAR files. To do that you need two programs: WinRAR and QuickPAR. WinRAR is a commercial program for decompressing and creating RAR files. An excellent free program for using and creating PAR files is QuickPAR.

The problem with this is that one or more of the compressed files can end up being corrupted or not even be on the news server at all.
