I noticed my newborn son has a sacral dimple, not an extremely deep one, but still concerning. The first ped that I showed, felt there was no need to do anything about it. His regular Ped ordered an U/S for next week.

My dad says he also had a large deep sacral dimple as my son has --- can it be genetic? My son has no obvious neural deficits or impaired movement. Is it irresponsible to refuse the MRI unless there appears to be a medical reason for it?

My training is that an ultrasound is acceptable if there are no neurological signs, only the dimple. But an ultrasound could miss a problem that might be picked up on an MRI.
