The septum can be deviated at birth (congenital) or because of injury, such as a broken nose. It also may bend to one side or the other as a result of aging. Very few people have a perfectly straight septum. Septoplasty generally is necessary only when breathing problems or snoring do not get better without surgery.

i'm getting deviated septum surgery in july and i'm really nervous. mine is pretty bad - i can't even smell anything. i'm wondering how painful it is and how long it took for the bruising and scarring to go away...

My doctor wants to fix my deviated septum. I have dry throat for past six months because of this. I know that is not major surgery but I would like to hear a little about it.
