What is the difference between managed and unmanaged switches and would you recommend I get one for our environment? Thanks for your help ... A simple, inexpensive unmanaged switch is all you need. The only real advantage over a unmanaged switch and a managed switch, both straight out of thier boxes, is that that managed switch will typically have more processor speed and memory to be able to handle it's higher capabilities and may switch faster, other than that they will perform the same base function.
