It is great that English is spoken by so many people around the world, but this can make it very difficult to understand, because there are such a range of different accents. In today's activity we use a website called The Speech Accent Archive to listen to different accents and compare them.

Nearly all the British accents, including my own regional accent which isn't listed. I haven't heard enough different Canadian accents to be able to tell the difference between any of them (except of course between primarily English and primarily French speaking Canadians).

This is a good way of improving your listening skills at an advanced level and learning to recognise the differences between accents of different British, American and World English speakers. And at the same time increasing your knowledge of English literature.
