I checked this site because I need to buy a supply of DVD's and was unsure of what the difference between DVD - and + R's is. I found this pretty ... Just remember that the "-" MINUS and "+" PLUS sign is only act as an identifier of the two different format of the DVD used as they are not compatible to each other.

DVD-R/W and DVD+R/W are physically pretty much the same discs, but how the data is stored onto them is different -- DVD+R/W's method is slightly more technically advanced than DVD-R/W's. I found by experimenting with different DVD media that some media would not work in every player. Some would spit the DVD back out at me while others would only play the menu but lock up when trying to play the movie.

What is the difference between DVD-audio and CDs? It all has to do with their sampling rate. ... If you have read How DVDs Work, you know that DVDs are very similar to CDs, but they hold more data -- 4.7 gigabytes for a DVD compared to 650 megabytes for a CD. Two-layer DVDs can store twice that.
