Slide the distributor in and rotate the base so that the rotor is pointing to the #1 plug terminal on the cap. Make sure that the groove is lined up with the zero on the timing tab. Your engine should start. You will then have to set the timing after the car is running.

Remove the spark plugs, disconnect the coil wire, turn the engine over until the # 1 piston is at Top Dead Center, (TDC) on the compression stroke. Once it reaches TDC the rotor will be pointing at the # 1 position on the distributor cap.
