Water the plant well prior to taking the cuttings. Plants that respond well to this type of propagation are dracaena, dieffenbachia, Monstera or other plants with thick, fleshy stems.

I hope it will encourage others to try it with long stems that they have removed from their Dracaenas. You are now the Designated Expert in Dracaena propagation. Before you cut off any of the stems to make them smaller, check to see if the stems have put down roots all along the stem.

Dracaena propagation? Plant Propagation ... I recently moved house and among the casualties of the move was my quite large dracaena, which apparently fell over in the moving van & broke in half. Hello, I believe the type of Dracaena is Janet Craig. I was given a 3-ft piece which was lopped off at the bottom, hence no roots. I put it in water to root.
