1T-SRAM is SRAM only by name (marketing). It requires the same refreshing as any DRAM. MoSys claims latency comparable to SRAM by "hiding" the refreshing. But SRAM can still have a much higher clock speed. Would be nice to have a PC system with 1T-SRAM DRAM, so benchmarks can be run -- to compare to other DRAM.

How much faster is DRAM vs SRAM per KB? With chip prices so low nowadays, why haven't the newer generation of chips increased the amount of on-die cache memory? I know price is a big factor. But ma ... Tom's Hardware: Topic DRAM vs SRAM...

Forum CPU & Components : CPUs - SRAM vs. SDRAM ... If SRAM consists of 4-6 times transistors as SDRAM, how come it costs gazillion times as much ? Shouldn't it be viable to produce a 128MB stick for the same amount of money it takes to produce 512MB DRAM ?

SRAM is very fast and very power efficient, but the fact that it takes 4 to 6 transistors to make one memory cell (vs. one transistor for one DRAM memory cell) means that it's way expensive to produce.

A: There are major differences between synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) and Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) that make the control of SDRAM easier to control than DRAM. As the speed of processors and buses continues to increase, the speed of standard DRAM becomes increasingly inadequate.
