The service pack does not update the Driver.cab file itself; instead, the Update.exe program installs an additional driver file named Sp1.cab (or other if the SP number is greater). This file contains only updated versions of drivers that exist in the original Windows 2000 or Windows XP Driver.cab file.

alright friggin a i figured i out it was the bios, so fo future reference when someone says that windows xp get hung up on a file and have a sata HDD thats because there driver they are using to reconize hte HDD in windows set-up isn't right, ... Ok I fixed my problem where I couldn't see anythin on my monitor(happened to be a bad ram stick I bought the other day) During installation of XP SP1 it gets to 28% of installation, formatting already done, and then freezes when trying to copy driver.cab.

"X-Image did not find a driver cab file for this model."; It says it was installed by Dell Financial Services. I have deleted all registry entries that point to that program, but it still keeps popping up and asking for a CD or DVD with the missing CAB file.
