There are many factors that effect durometer readings. Temperature, humidity, how much force is applied to the gauge, how fast the gauge is pushed down and when the reading is taken all play a part in what type of reading you will get.

Whatever you do, DON"T GO BY DUROMETER READINGS ALONE. They mean NOTHING when comparing tires from different "Families". I can give you 4 different tires that read 30 on the durometer. Only one will work on the rear...

Take durometer reading every 20 degrees. If it's an autocross tire chart the durometer reading from 100 to 180 degrees, road race tires 140 to 220 degrees. I would expect the durometer readings of autocross tires to soften at 100-110 degrees and stay consistent to 160 to 180 degrees.

For the best results you should take your durometer readings as quickly as possible. Simply place the durometer on the tire surface with the footpad at a slight angle. Lightly roll the footpad until it is flat on the tire, take your reading and record the measurement.

It uses a much smaller indenter and lighter springload than the standard A scale gauge, enabling the user to check materials as thin as .050", yet still obtain readings comparable to the standard A scale. The Micro-A gives readings to approximately +/- 2 points of a standard A scale durometer.

Note, on the table below Durometer A and ; Durometer D is the same as Shore A and Shore D. ... The hardness testing of plastics is most commonly measured by the Shore (Durometer) test or Rockwell hardness test. Both methods measure the resistance of the plastic toward indentation. Both scales provide an empirical...

A set of Durometer readings for the same samples is then observed and noted. Thereafter, only the Durometer hardness need be observed on similar material specimens to obtain a reasonable measure of the other property.
