Binary star - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A binary star is a star system consisting of two stars orbiting around their common center of mass. The brighter star is called the primary and the other is its companion star , comes , or se...

Eclipsing binary stars are just one several types of variable stars. These stars appear as a single point of light to an observer, but based on its brightness variation and spectroscopic observations we can say for certain that the single point of light is actually two stars in close orbit around one another.

Light Curve for Eclipsing Binaries ... It is classified as an Algol-type eclipsing binary. (The very sharp dips in light output are characteristic of this type of eclipsing variable.) Hipparcos found 343 previously unknown eclipsing binaries; this is one of them.

Some binary systems are sufficiently close to Earth and the stars are well enough separated that we can see the two stars individually in a telescope and track their motion over a period of time. We term such systems visual binaries.

PHOEBE stands for PHysics Of Eclipsing Binaries. It is an astronomical software that helps you do the modeling of eclipsing binaries (EBs) based on real photometric and spectroscopic (radial velocity) data. It is based on the Wilson-Devinney code.

Title: Eclipsing Binaries ... Description: Today we will discuss eclipsing binaries, variable stars that are actually two stars in orbit around each other, where one star periodically eclipses the light from its companion. ... Astronomers are very interested in eclipsing binaries because they help us measure stellar sizes,
