Elodea canadensis ... Elodea is a rooted multi-branched perennial plant but can survive and grow as floating fragments. The dark green blade-like leaves (3/5 inch long and 1/5 inch wide) are in whorls of three with finely toothed margins.

Brazilian elodea looks very much like a larger, more robust version of its commonly-found native relative, Elodea canadensis (waterweed). The photograph at the right compares two strands of Elodea canadensis (upper left) to Egeria densa (the large robust plant to the right).

Are there anacharis, elodea and Egeria, or are they all the same? ... There is but one great all-round warm-water aquarium "anacharis" formerly of the genus "Elodea" now Egeria, a few coldwater varieties (unfortunately all-too-often mis-sold as tropicals) and the "other" names are fallacious.
