Right now any file compressed with lzop will be processed by one mapper. This is a shame since the lzo algorithm would be very suitable for large log files and similar common hadoop data sets. The compression rate is not the best out there but the decompression speed is amazing.

Use the command tar xvf astro.tar to create the directory astro containing the files text.dvi, text.ps, text.tex, table.dvi, table.ps, and table.tex plus the three sub-directories ... . If these files are not decompressed automatically by your system, then use the command gunzip name.gz to transform the compressed file...

Tom's Hardware: Topic File sizes, can anybody explain ... Usually we use 24bit files, which is 3 x 8 bits, so your 1920 x 2560 = 4,915,200 x 3 = 14,745,600 bytes in total! Most picture files are compressed, so there is NO WAY to tell how many bytes the actual picture ... xp compressed files how much disk space is saved...

Let me explain according to the example in above article. Lets say that you have a text file containing the following text; ... Why is there a limit to compressed files? If I ZIP a file, and I ZIP it again, it doesn't get smaller... why not? If I use different compression methods, shouldn't it still get smaller?
