The eyed click beetle has two large black eyespots surrounded by a dense ring of white scales on the pronotum. The elytra have thin, lengthwise ridges separated by speckled depressions. The true eyes are on the head anterior to the false eyes.

The Eyed Click Beetle is known for its ability to catapult itself into the air. An overturned beetle will make a sharp clicking noise as it flips itself into the air trying to right itself. The insect extends its head and prothorax backward and then quickly straightens its body.
