One of my students is doing a science fair project on fading construction paper. She cut strips of each color and exposed them to sunlight for 1 hour intervals for a period of 6 hours. At the end, the green paper appeared to have faded the most.

Which parts of the sunlight are absorbed or reflected determines what the color of the paper is. Some dyes or pigments are changed into another chemical when they absorb the light. If this new chemical cannot absorb any light it will be colorless and you will see the paper fade.

it won't totally prevent the fading but it might slow it down somewhat. Anything like that will fade when exposed to light, somethings, like construction paper, faster than others due to it's "softness". A harder paper, like a cardstock, or a glossy paper might hold the color a little bit longer than construction paper.
