The Doberman has a smooth, muscular body with a short, fine, close laying coat. Ears can be cropped and erect or natural. The tail is docked short. Permissible colors are black, red, blue and fawn (Isabella). White is not an allowed color although white patches on the chest not exceeding 1/2 inch square are permissible.

The Doberman is a man made breed, which Mr. Louis Doberman, a tax collector and dog catcher produced the first of this breed by crossing different breeds Mr. Doberman left no journals on how many breeds are in the Doberman, so the guessing game has been going on for years.

As one can see from the previous chart, the logical assumption is that the fawn (Isabel) colored Doberman coat is an unlikely result, even when two red Dobermans carrying the dilute fawn gene are bred.
