Modern scholars, like some of the ancients, are certain that the Lupercalia festival had something to do with goat herding. That's not to long a logical leap considering what the ritual entailed. Priest of the two colleges of "Luperci" (which only means Lupercalia officiators) would gather at the "Lupercal".
