A valve job is removing the cylinder head(s) from the engine so the valves, guides and seats can be refurbished to restore compression and oil control. A valve job may be necessary by the time an engine has 80,000 or more miles on it, or to fix a "burned valve," compression or oil burning problem.

I have a '99 Honda Accord with 104k miles and my car was vibrating violently. My mechanic told me I have a burnt engine valve. Anyone have this before?? How much did it cost to replace?? ... You had better ask your mechanic of choice what he will charge to fix it. Know before you say go. He will have to remove the heads...

I think I was successful in replacing my valve cover gasket on my 96 saturn SL2, but when I tightened up the bolts the one at the very center of the valve cover seems to be stripped in the hole. My local NAPA guy says its a relatively easy fix, and I can probably drive it...
