Unfortunately, there are few solutions to the flooding problems associated with a high water table. Construction of a waterproof basement is one solution. To do so, the walls are waterproofed with bitumen saturated membranes, similar to the construction of a built-up roof.

aquifer (unconfined)--an aquifer whose upper water surface (water table) is at atmospheric pressure, and thus is able to rise and fall. ... levee--a natural or manmade earthen barrier along the edge of a stream, lake, or river. Land alongside rivers can be protected from flooding by levees.

Yields of one cultivar, CP 89-2143, were the least affected by water-table treatments. The other three cultivars generally had higher cane and sugar yields at the 45-cm water-table depth with or without flooding than at the 20-cm water-table depth with or without flooding.

The upper surface of the zone of saturation is called the water table. The zone that exists between the water table and the ground surface is called the zone of aeration. In order to be successful, a well must be drilled into the zone of saturation.

Water table depths during the 14-d drainage period of each cycle were 16, 33, or 50 cm. A fourth treatment was maintained continuously at a 50-cm water table depth. Genotype CP 95-1429 yields were not affected by water table or flooding.

Below this layer is the "zone of saturation", where the gaps are filled with water. The water table is the boundary between these two layers. As the amount of groundwater ... When the entire area below the ground is saturated, flooding occurs because all subsequent precipitation is forced to remain on the surface.

Responses of Ps, Ts, and SC to four water-table treatments were measured for four 21-d cycles each year. Three treatments consisted of 7-d flooding followed by 14-d drainage to depths of 16, 33, or 50 cm. The fourth treatment was a continuous 50-cm water table.
