The closest I ever came to folding money into creative shapes was in high school when we used to fold dollar bills into the shape of triangles (we didn't know how to fold dollars into the shape of footballs). Then we would try to flip our dollar triangles through fake field goals.

Folding paper money (or "money origami") is my one true creative output. My best original designs include spiders, eyeglasses, sailboats, and framed portraits. I got started in high school when I learned how to make a ring out of a dollar bill.

Start by folding the bill precisely in half lengthwise. (I prefer to fold in toward the front of the bill. I think it produces a nicer design on the end product. ... Once you've done a few, you can try folding the whole thing into the reverse side, leaving the obverse side out. (Like I said, I think this looks better.
