All I want to do is to assign a shortcut to a function key when the desktop is displayed. Thanks again for any comments. I'm using a Dell Dimension 2400, Windows XP SP2, and Dell Enhanced Multimedia PS/2 Keyboard Part number 3R302.

Does anyone have any ideas of a program that can be used to program the function keys on a normal computer keyboard ? ... Is there a way to program a function key, like F12 which I never use for anything, so that when I need to type my email address I just press F12 and it pastes the text wherever my cursor happens to be?
