Sewer Smell Coming from Garbage Disposal. I would like to know how to get rid of the awful odor that comes up through the garbage disposal... it smells like the sewer. I asked a plumber about it, and he said to grind up a quarter of a lime without using water every so often in the disposal--didn't work for me.

I do not know) in the garbage disposal. The upshot is that whenever I run it there is a horrible smell of stale cigarettes that comes from the unit. I am sort of lucky in that the smell comes form the unit itself -- under the sink -- and not from the actual ingress to the disposer.

Getting A bad smell from my garbage disposal, why? ... Two hoses hook up to the ends of this air gap the small one is connected to the dishwasher the larger is connected to your garbage disposal.
