Suddenly thereafter I'll start loudly gasping for air. This will continue for perhaps 30-40 seconds before more normal breathing returns. Very scary moments and ... I know of people who "silently" aspirate, or have fluids or food go down the windpipe versus the esophagus and have breathing problems because of that.

My dog's breed is known to have heart problems. He does have known allergies so his could be related to his seasonal allergies. ... If only then, then that is normal as he is pulling it...obviosly...but if he is gasping in other situations when he should not be....i advise you to take him to a vet ASAP! having a pet is not...

I will wake up in the middle of the night, feeling that I am unable to breathe and gasping for air. Usually I'll wake up in a panic and will be out of bed and on my feet before I relax and realize I'm OK. Then it passes quickly and I get back in bed.

Here is what has been happening to me: For the past year, about once a month, I wake up in the middle of the night gasping for air. This scares my husband and I dramatically and we have no idea what to do. I am currently 8 months pregnant and it is getting much worse.
