Goldfish - Losing Scales?: Is this normal? ... I did a google on "goldfish losing scales" this afternoon and aside from the normal things like ich, I found that older goldfish sometimes just lose scales, so maybe that's all it is.....

My little fish is losing scales. Large patches are missing all over his body. My mom thinks it may be my large fish attacking him, or possibly the sucker fish that's in the tank with them. The suckerfish mostly keeps to himself though, i've never seen him latch onto one of the fish ... Goldfish are fine without their scales.

Some fish will loose scales during the breeding process. However if they are loosing scales for no reason, chances are it is from a parasite. Treating with parasitic meds can help but water changes are most effective.

Could possibly be something more seriously wrong when fish lose scales. COuld be a parasite, fungus or some disease.

One fancy goldfish has shown (for the last maybe 4 days) some brown scales (around her belly) and her mouth has a brown circle around it. She is acting very normally otherwise. I called a pet store which said it was probably an infection and told me to get some TC?

I thought that my goldfish, who is 11" and 5 yrs old, was getting white spots, but it seems that one or two of his scales have lost thier gold colour and are now white. ... No, he's not losing any scales, at least none that I have noticed and I keep a close eye on him. Do they naturally shed scales? There are no sharp...
