However, I have also seen some dogs attack cats with the obvious intent to kill it whatever its behavior. Since this is almost never initiated because of hunger, and because I have not seen the dogs actually eat the cats, I assume they attack for another reason.

Goshawks are fierce powerful birds that will vigorously attack people who disturb their nests. They are more likely to eat small mammals than the other accipiters. When hunting other birds they have been known to crash into brush and branches knocking out their prey which is hiding inside.
