Nobody knows just why the notion stuck—possibly because it's closer to Latin grammar, or perhaps because the word "preposition" means "position before," which seemed to mean that a preposition can't come last. At any rate, this is a rule that modern grammarians have long tried to get us out from under.

Grammar Girl, perhaps you could correct Tod, from 'wordiness' on his usage of split infinitives: "Everyone that I know seems to not be able to not put the phrase' go ahead and' in front of a verb." Furthermore we see much of them since Stuart and Michael Harte are assisting Barbara Lomas at B.R.A., while John has established a very up and coming club at Carrick Grammar. Perhaps some of the more venerable Old Boy Bridge players will make it along in the schools’ sesquicentennial year!
