Subject: The use of 'as well as' ... If taken as preposition, 'as well as' to me should be followed by -ing form. Also, from Michael Swan's Practical English Usage, I learn that it's possible to put a bare infinitive after this phrase, as in: I have to feed the animals as well as look after the children.

I notice today (31 Oct 97) from Ming Pao again (p. D11) that 'as well as' is followed by a past participle: Yesterday Chinese President Jiang Zemin was welcomed by President Bill Clinton and other American political dignitaries to the White House as well as greeted with human rights groups' demonstrations.
