Packard's grasshopper was common during the infestations of pasures and cereal crops during 1983-87 (I saw isolated infestations of up to 50 per sq. m., of this species). They were rare during 1999-2002, although other grasshopper species increased during this period.

All five species studied showed chromosome numbers consisting of 2n = 23,X0 in males and 2n = 24,XX in females. Amblytropidia sp. was the only species showing a bivalent (M(8)) with megameric behavior during meiosis.

All unparasitized grasshoppers survived while 75-95% of permissive and 30-40% of non-permissive hosts died. Variation in the intensity of field parasitism among grasshopper species may be explained, at least in part, by qualitative differences in suitability between potential host species.
