The book also stated that one way to help the parakeet overcome their fear/shyness is by using some spray millet. I have yet to buy some spray millet, however, I decided to try hand-taming Angelina again.

This taming method includes frequently talking to your budgie, using a soft voice to sooth them. Each training session should last between 10-20 minutes. Slowly put your hand in the cage and keep it in there until the bird has a chance to settle itself down.

If i try to hand tame a parakeet and put my hand in the cage,wont it try to bite me.when parakeets bite does it hurt bad.And what does it mean when a parakeet stands on one leg and balances itself with the other leg.Thanks alot...

i've had my budgie (Tillee) for about a month and ... take it in small steps.he will learn to trust you after some time.once he sits in your hand, you can pick him up by gently pushing push your finger against his chest. he will step up.

The best way to start is by putting your hand in the cage- don't advance on him yet- for a few min. each day. Then once he gets used to your hand, you can try to offer him some fresh food from your hand (my parakeet loves celery, you should try it) or millet spray.
