Before drawing any conclusions from your histogram, satisfy yourself that the process was operating normally during the time period being studied. If any unusual events affected the process during the time period of the histogram, your analysis of the histogram shape probably cannot be generalized to all time periods.

For histogram analysis, three tissue classes were defined (Fig 1): 1) whole brain parenchyma as defined by all pixels with signal intensity above the noise threshold on fluid-attenuated b0 images, 2) T2 hyperintense lesions as defined by segmentation from fluid-attenuated b0 images, and 3) normal appearing brain tissue...

The peak height of the histogram was determined as a measure of the frequency of appearance in the most common MTR value. MTR histogram analysis was performed on the basis of the total T2 lesion plaques, the total DAWM, and a similar volume of NAWM.

The Histogram shows the total tonal distribution in the image. It's a barchart of the count of pixels of every tone of gray that occurs in the image. It helps us analyze, and more importantly, correct the contrast of the image.
